Natural Deodorant Helps to Prevent Cancer?

How can we all be proactive about staying cancer-free? A couple of months ago, I read David Servan-Schreiber’s Anticancer, A New Way of Life, New Edition
a must-read for anyone who wants to lead a cancer-free life. In the book, Servan-Schreiber details his journey from traditional, western-trained doctor and scientist to cancer patient. A two-time brain cancer survivor, he widened his scope and opened his mind to different types of treatments and prevention of cancer. Servan-Schreiber’s fundamental premise is that you (we all) are able to take a bit of control against cancer within our own bodies by calling on our own natural abilities to fight cancer.

In his book, Servan-Schreiber talks about conventional treatments, vitamins, processed foods, organic foods, teas and household cleaning products. He makes a really compelling case that if we take care of our “terrain” – our own bodies’ health by making sensible choices on all of the above, we stand to live in good health. This is by far one of the best and most worthwhile books I’ve read in the last several years.

Lafe's Aluminum-free DeodorantOne thing he talks about is deodorant. The aluminum contained in many mainstream deodorants are carcinogenic and harmful to our terrain. In fact, he talks about how such anti-perspirant/deodorants are particularly harmful because they are applied when the skin is warm and pores are open following hot showers. Switch, instead, to a deodorant that is aluminum-free.

You’re probably thinking “but does it work?” The answer is yes it does (with a small caveat)! Over the last few years, I have tried a number of different organic, aluminum-free deodorants. Some work better than others. But when I am doing a speaking engagement where I know I will be a little nervous and a lot hot, I will revert to the old school super dry anti-perspirant (yes, aluminum). But let’s say I do that 8-10 times a year instead of 365 days (sometimes more with multiple showers in one day!). I’ll take those odds.

I personally love Lafe’s Natural and Organic Deodorant Twist Stick- Fresh. It comes in a variety of flavors – tea tree, lavender, powder and unscented, among others. My husband, who was a naysayer, now uses it everyday too.

Look, there are a million things that we can’t control in our environment – the air we breathe, the oceans we swim in. But we can take control of the products that we use. Check out an aluminum-free deodorant for yourself!

This is so true. Aluminum in deodorant has been directly linked to breast cancer too. Ever since learning that, about ten years ago, I never wear deodorant - never. Glad to know there are new great brands out there, I'll get this one for my husband to try. So many toxins in our homes and products, maybe we go green and not be sooooooooo clean! There you go - you're not cleaning house because you want to stay healthy - get to the gym instead!
