Is Your Brazilian Wax Double-Dipped?

Women all over the place have been submitting their nether regions to hot wax in an attempt to keep things clean and tidy. And once they find an aesthetician who gets them, women are very loyal. Very. So much so that they will drive miles, or in the case of NYC folk, cross town or trek up or down town. But hey – is your aesthetician double dipping?
I went to the Waxing Spot in Westport recently. I only “cheated” on my aesthetician in the city because my girlfriend had gone and spoke very highly of them. Sure enough, the place is beautiful. While Rosemary and Veri, the proprietors, only perform waxing services, their establishment is more akin to a full-service spa with beautiful music and gorgeous design.
But here were the really important aspects of the Waxing Spot (stuff you need to look out for if you are going naked down there):
- Aestheticians wear gloves. There is an incredibly antiseptic feeling that is quite comforting.
- They never double dip. Wax pots are spotless, and never does an already dipped wax stick go back in. At the end of the treatment, there is a large pile of peeled wax, together with a bunch sticks, sitting on the treatment table for disposal.
- They are super fast. I looked at the clock when we started, and it read 10:30. I looked at the end, and it said 10:39. What could be better than a 9 minute Brazilian?
- They are niche experts! Rosemary and Veri, Brazilian themselves, are focused only on beautiful skin – wherever that skin may be waxed. There are no facials, nails or massages being performed here, so they are excellent at what they do!
- If possible, get your own pot! See if your salon will allow you to keep your own personal pot of wax and use that whenever you come in.
Veri commented that most women don’t notice whether their wax places double dip or not or whether a salon is clean and sanitary. But then they come to the Waxing Spot and realize how sanitary a wax place can be. I can totally see why the Waxing Spot has customers driving in from all parts of the tri-state area! Once you go, you’ll never go back!
If you can’t get to the Waxing Spot, check out your own salon. Make sure you’re being safe with your skin! Oh and one note… I know a lot of women who are considering laser hair removal a la Brazilian (youch!). Just yesterday, someone made the point that our skin won’t look the same in 20 years, so you might want to preserve your grooming options (ie, stick to the wax there)!
