Name: Susan King
Job (aka, Career/Calling/Inspiration): Intuitive Counselor
Age: 47
Family situation:
I became a widow eight years ago but have recently re-married.
How do you make sure you feel good everyday?
I look at the gifts in my life and the peace that fills my heart and I know I have many blessings, and I am grateful for all of them.
What inspires you to do the work that you do?
My work is the very essence of my being. Through work I feel a sense of goodness as I become a conduit to helping others. I assist them by giving clarity, perspective and understanding to what is going on in their life, or what will go on.
How did you muster up the courage/confidence/stamina to create the life you have?
In a simple word BELIEF. I had this burning feeling inside that I was supposed to do what I do. Prior to this work I had a career in the pharmaceutical industry. I have always been interested in anything that affects the mind, body and spirit.
When I turned 30 I decided to change my life and begin the career I have now. I had this strong knowing that this was my destiny. I feel that belief is the voice of our inner guidance, our higher self. So I honored this inner guidance, it is never wrong. I love what I do and I work all over the world. It has blossomed into magazine columns, a television show in the UK titled Sixth Sense, and many other opportunities that I had never dreamed of.
What’s your approach to nutrition?
I believe we are what we eat. If we eat well than we are well. Mind-body-spirit, we are all connected. I would like to lose a little bit of post-holiday weight, I’ve indulged my sweet tooth – but otherwise I am healthy.
How do you stay inspired when difficult challenges arise?
It varies. Often I draw on my own reserve of strength and experience. I get inspiration from poetry. One of my favorite poems is Rudyard Kipling’s, ‘If’. I also draw inspiration from nature and from life.
What do you do to stay in balance?:
I take small steps. I realize that I am on journey. As long as I am going in the right direction it does not matter how quickly I arrive. It matters that I do arrive. Along the way that I hope to help, learn, heal and nourish anyone that may be on the path with me. I value time, for it is the one thing that you can’t get back. I respect the universe and I listen to my still voice within. I guess you can say I listen to my heart.
What’s your ultimate indulgence – just for you?
I love essential oil massage. I feel the right hands can heal all the stresses of the day. Watching the sunrise over the ocean from my Florida home, listening to the birds at dawn, laughter – I love it! Is there any better medicine? Most of these things are free, they cost only the ability of gratitude.
What advice do you have for women/men aiming to have it all? In other words, what do you do or have you done that works for you?
Can we have it all, to spread ourselves so thin that their are only tiny piece of us in too many places? I have a great question mark with that expression. As long as we can put our hand on our heart and feel we are enough than we are ok. When we try to put too many things in one space we create imbalance, which is why there is much disillusionment today. Don’t despair, slow down, reflect, and put your priorities in order.
Any other thoughts?
If you’re alone or unhappy, know that there is someone out there for you. Know that you are ok right where you are and that every moment changes. Be grateful for all that you do have.
Thank you for speaking to Venus In Balance and for inspiring so many!
