Happy Chinese New Year!

What? You haven’t finished your new year’s resolutions yet? You know what? Neither have I. They are on my computer screen, and I think about them, but I haven’t actually completed them like I want to. Guess what. Chinese new year today! Kung hee fat choy! Let’s take the opportunity to finish our resolutions this year, the year of the dragon… How can that help you?

I love taking cues from various cultures, religions, ethnicities, philosophies, etc. I like taking on good learnings and inspiration that make my own life more productive. I myself am part Chinese, but culturally not as much, so I thought i would do a little digging about Chinese new year and the year of the Dragon.

In the Chinese culture, new year is the most important holiday. In addition to the celebration with family and friends and gift-giving, Chinese custom is to clean out the house (and ourselves!) to make way for all the good fortune that the new year will bring. Isn’t that a great idea?

Think about all the old stuff we hold onto in our lives. The piles of unused stuff in our closet. The masses of papers and magazines that we don’t throw out. The old grudges and habits we cling to.

Take the opportunity on this Chinese new year to think about what you’ll leave behind and the good fortune which you will make room for! Let’s clean house! And by the way, it’s the year of the Dragon! The dragon is known in Chinese culture to deliver good fortune and to be master of one’s destiny. All good energy, whether you are Chinese or not!

Happy new year!

It's big to have the Dragon in 2012 - this means lots of changes. My husband was born on Chinese New Year, in a snowstorm, and almost in a Chinese restaurant during a big party. Happy New Year!
