People who know about Jewels’ one-of-a-kind designs call themselves “addicts”...and with good reason. There’s just something about Jewels’ necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings that automatically transport the wearer to an exotic place and time. Her masterful style of hand weaving fine antique tribal elements–amber, coral, shells, turquoise, gold, North African silver, coins, talismans, trade objects–into hip and sophisticated wearable works of art makes one forget diamonds and pearls even exist.
Spending her time between Santa Fe, New Mexico and Marrakech where she opened a design studio just over a year ago (not to mention her various excursions to North and West Africa, South America, S.E. Asia, Indonesia, Tibet, China, India, Afghanistan and Yemen collecting jewelry-worthy artifacts), Jewels has been creating masterpieces for more than 25 years. Her following is more of a cult phenomenon. Historically, Jewels’ has set up trunk shows for her small bohemian enterprise at chic, boutique hotels in Los Angeles and New York where clients come out of the woodwork to purchase her wares…east and west coast fashionistas, artists, art collectors, and young entrepreneurs. Even celebrities such as Sheryl Crow, Orlando Bloom, Candice Bergen, Ali MacGraw, Patricia Arquette and Adrien Brody have been enamored with the beautiful, rare and extraordinary power of Jewels’ designs.

That power is in her imaginative use of tribal elements (many of which are 100 years old and older) and how she connects modern women to the power of ancient cultures. Her refined eye as a collector and her nostalgic passion for the dreamy North African cities have made her designs the embodiment of tribal sensibility and sophistication of the chic women who wear her jewelry. While the designs are uniquely “Jewels’”, they still maintain the integrity of the objects’ origins, giving them a sense of legacy to pass on. Each piece has a history to invest in, to share and to imagine.
About Jewels, the designer:
The daughter of an Air Force pilot, Jewels spent her formative years growing up in Tripoli. She traveled extensively with her family from Tunis to Tangiers and recalls endless wanderings through exotic market souks with her mother. Struck by the beauty of the coral, amber, silver and gold–all the wealth of North African families –she says, “I was hooked.” After her education in Europe, Jewels spent many years traveling, living in India, South America and again in North Africa expanding her education of jewelry design and knowledge of cultural artifacts…and always collecting.
Through the opening of her Marrakech design studio last year, not only is Jewels finally able to present her designs to a broader audience, she has opened up opportunities for young, educated women who otherwise have limited work and benefit options living in Morocco to become skilled silversmiths and bead weavers. Coming out of this studio is some of her greatest work yet.

Tribal references recently made a splash at fall fashion runway shows from New York to Paris and Milan. Jump on this trend with JEWELS’ fall collection of exotic and tribal baubles. JEWELS travels the far reaches of the globe in search of rare and wonderful artifacts and talismans for her sought after jewelry designs. JEWELS’ creations are born in her Marrakech studio and take flight on her followers around the world. The following images are just of taste. JEWELS designs range from $150-$2,500 and can be found at various boutiques nationwide as well as by calling 877-988-1310.
