Let It Shine!
Are you ever so happy or so thrilled with what’s happening in your life that you feel bad sharing your joy or good news with others? I was with someone last week who was elated about the life he’s embarked on recently – a new lease on his own life – and he said, multiple times “I have to find a way not to be so happy.” I think he was feeling bad that he was glowing, and that made me feel sad.
more…If It’s Broke, What Are You Gonna Do about It?
Many clients and friends over the last few months have been talking about frustration with how things are. They are overwhelmed, they beat themselves up with abandon, or they can’t believe that they’re doing the same damn thing… again. We are all driven by our patterns and habits, some productive and some not productive at all. Either way, it can be really hard to change. How do you do it?

Every person I’ve recommended this book to comes back and says how much they loved it, how it inspired them and how it made them laugh and cry. I personally could not put the book down once I began (it’s short, so that’s a good thing!), and I found myself sobbing uncontrollably by myself on a train to Connecticut one early morning. If you like books that make you think about life and which give you little bits of inspiration on how to live it, get this one!
Happy Chinese New Year!
What? You haven’t finished your new year’s resolutions yet? You know what? Neither have I. They are on my computer screen, and I think about them, but I haven’t actually completed them like I want to. Guess what. Chinese new year today! Kung hee fat choy! Let’s take the opportunity to finish our resolutions this year, the year of the dragon… How can that help you?
When We Jump through the Fear, Complacence, Phobia, Laziness…
Last weekend, my family spent some time in Mexico, a well-timed respite from the bitter cold that was New York City. It was a highlight of our family trips together – good food, sunshine and just us. Admittedly, there were moments of conflict and refereeing (many), but overall, we chalk this quick vacation up there in the top of the tops. There was one day in particular – in fact, one short afternoon – that stands out in my mind. And it happened only because we, individually and collectively, cast aside trepidations resulting from fear, complacence, germophobia and just laziness. Here’s what happened. Does this ever happen to you?
more…Who Are Your Teachers?
Remember when you were in school? You were constantly learning new things. Right about now, you might have been learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. Or multiplication tables. Or how to conjugate a sentence in Spanish – for I, you, he/she, we, you (plural – remember that?) and they. As adults, out of school for years, are you continuing to learn? Who are your teachers?
more…Choose Health, Not Skinny for the Moment!
I was listening to the radio – one of these morning talk shows – and they were surveying people about their gym habits. As it is January 11, and people haven’t petered out of their gym promises (or have we?), they were trying to suss out whether people get fit for an event (a wedding, spring break, reunion, etc.) or whether they just get up and do it. One woman called in and pissed me off. Here’s what she said.
The Latest in Youth Elixir?
A new year is upon us, and we are (hopefully) committed to our new year’s resolutions. With every year, there is also focus on what we can do to stay young. What’s the latest cream, facial or other technology that will keep our faces and bodies lithe, dewy and wrinkle free? Maybe we’ve always known the answer.
more…It’s January 5 – Have You “Failed” Your Resolutions?
Clients and friends alike have been wanting redos on January 1st. The resolutions they’ve (we’ve) made – to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, to exercise, to get fit, to eat better, to spend more time with loved ones, to be patient, to start that project, to lose 10 pounds, to ditch the junk food, to eat more veggies, to watch less TV – have yet to be implemented, have already been transgressed, and perhaps, if we’re really being honest, have yet to be put to paper. And by January 5, sigh, you’re feeling like a total failure. Not to fear! Here’s what you can do!
The Life We Take for Granted
First of all, happy new year! This is such an odd post for me to be starting the year with. (Apologies in advance.) I have spent the last 36 hours thinking about death. Over the holidays, two people in my community, one who I’d just met, and one who I’ve known for 30 years, passed away, both young, kind and lovely people with great potential. They are sorely missed, and their passings have truly impacted the people who knew and loved them. How does this affect you?
