The One Thing You Can’t Forget during This Holiday Season

There are a million more things to do around the holidays. My favorites include receiving holiday cards, holiday parties and extra time with my family. The work, however, that comes with the holidays can take up hours of time in an already time-pressed week. Wrapping presents, sending holiday cards, unwrapping fragile ornaments, shopping, cooking, making lists and checking them twice. What’s the one thing that you must keep on your calendar despite the dearth of time?

Uplifting and Fun Gift for Kids

Remember the Fonz? I loved the Fonz. When I was 8, I had a tee-shirt with picture of him on it – complete with that trademark grin and black leather jacket. It was my favorite tee-shirt. Fast forward 32 (gulp) years, and I have fallen in love with him all over again. And the artist formerly known as the Fonz will capture your heart, too, whether or not you had a crush on him in your childhood. To boot, he will give you many gift possibilities for your holiday giving this year.

An Important Reminder This Holiday Season

‘Tis the season to be jolly…. right? Awake at 513am for a spin class so that I can fit everything into my day, including an 830 dinner tonight, I am reminded of all the extra stuff that we do during the holiday season. The holiday cards, the shopping, the baking, the parties, the dinners… All those additional hours take their toll, adding stress to your life and to your body. Here’s an important reminder for you.

What Does Your Discomfort Zone Look Like?

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the gym, and there was only one other person there working with her trainer. It being a small space, it’s easy to hear what’s going on. As I’m planking on the floor, I can hear her trainer prepping her for intervals… 20 seconds of full out, high intensity exercise on a cardio machine and then 40 seconds of rest. Not bad, I thought – she gets a long time to chill. But then she started, and I started to feel for her.

If Only You Knew How Easy It Was…

On my way to the gym this morning, I ran into my downstairs neighbor, sweaty, exhilarated and energized from his just completed workout. I was so happy to see him bounding home, this guy, who in the last year or so, literally has dropped half his body weight. We chatted for a minute on how he did it, which I’ll tell you about in a bit. But his last comment, which I loved, was “If only I’d known how easy it is!”

If It Ain’t Broke…

I went to a parenting lecture and had a drink with a friend last night, and we were talking about the various things we do for our development. When someone first suggested that I go to one of these (kooky to me at the time) self-improvement seminars, my thought literally was “well, if I go, doesn’t that mean something’s wrong with me?” And the second thought: “How can I put myself out there as a coach if I need this stuff?” My husband also wondered why I would feel the need to journey across the country to learn. “What’s wrong?” Nothing! How might this stuff help you?

How to Stay Motivated When You Fall off the Wagon

BillieJeanKing_hsmall-vertical“For me, losing a tennis match isn’t failure, it’s research.” – Billie Jean King. A lot of women – men too – fall off the wagon in their attempt to get to their goals. Whatever the wagon we fall off of, I’m willing to bet there is some amount of guilt and feeling of utter failure. And ultimately – “why even try? I am destined to be _________.” Failure. But how useful is that?

A Commitment to Yourself This Holiday Season

This long weekend, there were many conversations at the various meals about how to stick to health during the holiday season. Not only are we bombarded with sweets and alcohol to excess, but we are put in situations that test our strength and our commitment to health. How do you stay on track when there are so many forces pulling you away from your star?

Physical vs. Emotional – What Can You Do?

I am writing this post from Utah. My husband and I have been staying right near Lake Powell for the last few days and have embarked on some phenomenal hikes, including scrambling up and down almost vertical walls and trekking all the way up to mesas that, from the bottom, we thought were unattainable. Our guide, Yermo, talked about how he can tell – at the front desk – what a person is capable of, at least, physically. Emotionally, he said, was another story. What’s your emotional capability?

Choose Your Thoughts!

We have power over what goes on inside us intellectually and emotionally. We have the power to choose our thoughts and our focus. We have the power to choose what we eat and how we nourish our bodies. We have the power to feed our spirits. We have the power to determine to what extent we move our bodies. We have the power to act on our thoughts to manifest our goals and life’s vision. We also have the power to do the opposite of all of that and in effect, deny ourselves of the best that we can be.
