VITACOCO

Find out why Demi is ditching the Red Bull for Vita Coco, and why Madonna, the poster-girl for all things healthy, has invested in the company. I shared the benefits of Coconut Water months ago… So go get your Coco On!

I love coconut water. I use Vita-Coco coconut water every single morning in my smoothie. Coconut water is the juice from the coconut and it is loaded with electrolytes, twice the RDA of Vitamin C*, potassium, and low in calories. Electrolytes are present in the human body. The balance of the electrolytes in our bodies is essential for normal function of our cells and our organs. Coconut water restores balance while replenishing the fluids lost from exercise, illness, or too much indulging.

*Vitamin C metabolizes fat! Yes, it helps to convert the fat that you have stored, and move on out!

My favorite brand is VITA COCO coconut water and this is why -BENEFITS OF COCONUT WATER:
-99% fat free – containing only the good fats
-More electrolytes than leading sports drinks – with 15 times more potassium
-Low in calories and sugar
-Twice the RDA of Vitamin C!
-Raises your metabolism!
-Boosts immune system
-Promotes weight loss
-Fights viruses in the body
-Balances PH in body – alkaline forming!
-Helps remove kidney stones
-Transports oxygen and nutrients to cells!
-Cleanses digestive tract

Switch to coconut water and skip the Gatorade, which is poison! Gatorade’s main ingredient, after water, is sugar. Gatorade actually has four different forms of sugar on its ingredients label. The most harmful being high fructose corn syrup. As I wrote about in Honor Thy Heart, HFCS damages our cells and raises uric acid and triglyceride levels in our blood, which increases our risk for heart disease. Gatorade is also full of artificial food dyes and coloring.

Make your next smoothie with coconut water and ditch the dairy, the extra calories, and the sugared juices. Coconut water is delicious just on its own too.

COCONUT WATER SMOOTHIE:

  • 8 oz. VITA COCO COCONUT WATER (for electrolytes)
  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior Organic Vegan Protein Powder !)
  • 1 tablespoon Sun Warrior ORMUS Greens Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Catie’s Organic Vitamin C Plus Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Maca Root*
  • 1 banana
  • handful of Cascadian Farm frozen organic blueberries or cherries.
  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • Place everything in blender, blend and enjoy. This is a breakfast complete with all electrolytes, your vitamins, nutrients, pure digestible rice protein (no bloat!), supergreens, antioxidants. A TRUE POWERHOUSE!

*Please read my piece on Maca to find out the amazing healing properties of this herb.

    Venus Quick Tip:
To speed things up I take all the liquid ingredients and place them in my Vita-Mix (or your blender), place in fridge overnight. In small Ziploc bags or little containers I place everything that is a powder. I do this on a Sunday for each day of the week. When you’re ready for breakfast you, pull out your Vitamix, pour in your container of powders, add fruit and ice and blend – it takes less than 2 minutes.

    * I always recommend choosing organic over conventional!

The thought of coconut water was one of those "sacred cows" (see my post on that) for me. I had this old belief that I wouldn't like it at all. And then Susan turned me on to Vita Coco. And I absolutely love it!! I use it in my smoothies to replenish my electrolytes after a workout and because I always look to live an alkaline life, I am happy to have this alkaline addition to my menu! Go Vita Coco!

Vita coco is now stapled to my diet. I have it at least twice everyday. Morning, and after my workout, sometimes even with dinner. I can be having a really stressful day, and Vita coco just makes me feel like I’m away on some tropical vacation. Wonderful. And the health benefits? Fantastic, just as the article says. And you know that when Madonna is enthusiastic about something, it’s worth being excited about!

      Claire,

Thanks for writing to VIB. WE love that you have embraced living La Vita-Coco! We love it. I have it everyday too. I agree with you, if Madonna is drinking it that speaks volumes of its health benefits. We have been downing it way before we knew that, but it’s nice to be in good company. Best, Susan
