Martial Arts Champion, Sensei Martinez
Posted: November 19th, 2010 | No Comments »
In Japanese, Sensei means ‘Teacher, one who has gone before and holds more wisdom’. No one embraces the title of Sensei more than Brayner Martinez.
As the owner of B. Warrior Martial Arts studio, Brayner trains both children and adults in Jujitsu. Jujitsu is a martial art which teaches strategic self-defense moves, using the mind and the body. It has been practiced in Japan since the sixteenth century. Jujitsu uses a series of joint locks and defensive tactics, in combination with conserved energy, to subdue an attacker. Many other martial arts such as Judo and Aikido have their roots in Jujitsu. The word “Jujitsu” means the practice of gentleness.
What is most fascinating about this ancient practice is the positive improvement it provides to the students character. Jujitsu instills confidence, focus, discipline and calm. My son’s confidence increased almost immediately since his training began. After school judo is offered in his school, however, I travel four times a week to have my son train with Sensei Martinez. He is a champion and award winner in the world of Jujitsu, he commands respect and is both loved and admired by those who train with him.
If your child could use a little boost in confidence, discipline, respect, focus, and defense training, look no further – contact www.BWARRIOR.com.
Name: Brayner Martinez
Job (aka, Career/Calling/Inspiration):
Owner of B. Warrior Martial Arts, Jijitsu Champion and Marital Arts and kickboxing Instructor
Age: 34
Family situation (kids? dating? long-term relationship?):
Married with two small children.
How do you make sure you feel good every day?
Getting a good night sleep is very important and good nutrition is crucial to health and strength. I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night and I start my day with a healthy breakfast, like oatmeal. I like to train, sparring in the morning wakes me up and gets the blood flowing.
What inspires you to do the work that you do?
My father trained in martial arts. It was important to him that me and my brother get training. It changed my life, my self-confidence and how others treated me. I love teaching. I love the reward of seeing my clients feel empowered. It feels great being able to help them have better physical, emotional, and spiritual lives.
How did you muster up the courage/confidence/stamina to create the life you have?
Learning martial arts instilled in me an appreciation for discipline. Through this practice comes self-responsibility and accountability. This has provided me with strength as an adult. It is a skill set I need to run my business and to effectively pass on to my clients/students.
What’s your approach to nutrition?
I keep it simple and balanced – protein, vegetables, carbohydrates and healthy fats. I work very long days at my studio/school so I need to keep my energy high all day. I like lean protein like chicken, a healthy carb like sweet potatoes, and of course, greens and salads.
How do you stay inspired when difficult challenges arise?
My family and friends lend support. My father, brothers and teachers were among my role models, helping to make fitness a big part of my life. Exercise helps tremendously in challenging times.
What do you do to stay in balance – in other words, how do you balance things like your career, your well-being, your happiness, your friends, your children, your spouse, dating, your fitness, your nutrition, your hobbies, etc.?
Like most people, it isn’t always perfect.I keep a schedule and I stick to it. I have also learned to say no when I need to. I stay focused on giving my family and my students the best of myself. Getting run-down because I’m over committe doesn’t help anyone.
What’s your ultimate indulgence – just for you?
Travel. Hawaii is one of my favorite places. I also love the Caribbean and other warm climates. NYC can be stressful on the body and spirit, especially in Winter. Traveling is very restorative and important for well-being.
What advice do you have for women/men aiming to have it all? In other words, what do you do or have you done that works for you?
Be consistent and disciplined. When you set goals, make sure that you take actions that will help you achieve them. We all have busy schedules so you need to prioritize your health. Stay focused on what you want the outcome to look like and you’ll get there.
