couple of months ago, I read David Servan-Schreiber’s Anti-Cancer: a New Way of Life, a must-read for anyone who wants to lead a cancer-free life. In the book, Servan-Schreiber details his journey from traditional, western-trained doctor and scientist to cancer patient. A two-time brain cancer survivor, he widened his scope and opened his mind to different types of treatments and prevention of cancer. His fundamental premise is that you (we all) are able to take a bit of control against cancer within our own bodies by calling on our own natural abilities to fight cancer. One thing we can control? The deodorant we use.

What are friends for? As women we love to share information with each other, it’s our nature. As a matter of fact, if you have a friend who is holding out on you – she’s a frienemy! Those same rules that applied when you were seven still apply today; share, share that’s fair. As much as I would love to take credit for finding this product, it’s not mine to take. My friend, Serena and I were discussing self-tanner’s and Serena asked if I knew of a good one. I used to have a favorite organic brand but it came from Australia and I can no longer find it. So I have reluctantly been trying to move to the ‘other’ camp where pale is the new tan. Truth be told I prefer a little glow – not like a bag of cheetos fell on my head, just a healthy glow.

This morning, walked into Bloomingdales to refill some cosmetics. As much as I love the lights and beautiful array of products at Sephora, today, I was looking for a much more personal experience. I rediscovered By Terry. Beautiful. A few years ago, I was shopping the beauty floor at Barneys and had discovered By Terry. I especially loved their liquid foundation (don’t wear that any more) and their rose lip balm (apparently their best seller). Today, I found a new face powder. Natural – no parabens. It’s light while providing coverage. I also liked that the first ingredient in the products is often hyaluronic acid and other anti-aging stuff. Who doesn’t want makeup that will help keep us looking young!

I recently went shopping for skincare products. It was quite a liberating experience because I shopped at the grocery store. I love shopping for all things beauty. I love the colors, the textures and the fragrances. I love the density of the offerings – so much stuff to choose from in such a small space. I love the way beauty products can transform and am fascinated by how lotions, moisturizers and balms can feed the skin. I always told my mother that if I hadn’t gone to law school, I would have gone to school to learn to be an aesthetician.
